Pre-philately.1814.Letter sent from New York on May 23, 1814, destined for Lisbon, where it arrived on the 9th, coming from England, and with a postage of 350 reis applied. Communications with the United States were interrupted due to the blockade by the English navy. In the text “The communication with your port is now entirely cut off….and yet.. as the blockade of our port prevents any communication with Lisbon...”, the letter must have broken through the blockade, gone to England, was dropped in the post office in Glasgow, where the sea postage to Portugal was also paid. Letter of historical interest.
