Russian stamp. - Judaism and Zionism thrived in the Ukraine in the early 20th century, to be diminished drastically by the events of World War One, the Russian revolution, and Communist rule. The revolution took place in February 1917. This envelope was mailed 26 June 1917 from the Bryansk district bordering Russia and Ukraine. The stamp is Russian, with an overprint revaluing it from 7 to 10 kopecks, used in Ukraine. Opened and sealed by a wartime censor, it was sent to a Jew in Bronx New York.
