ANWAR SADAT EGYPT RARE LARGE GOLD PLATE BRONZE COMMEMORATIVE MEDAL 1975 - Re-opening of the Suez Canal. Dated 5 June 1975. This medal commemorates the re-opening of the Suez Canal, 8 years after its closing during the 6 Day War. It is dated 5 June 1975. The back shows a soldier stepping across the Suez Canal into the Sinai Peninsula and planting an Egyptian flag in a broken Star of David. That symbolizes the initial gains of the Egyptian army's surprise attack, before Israel surrounded and captured them. Above appears the date 6 October 1973 and the inscription 'Release From Occupation'. The front pictures a ship sailing through the Canal in front of the Canal Administration Building, and honors President Anwar Sadat. Around are inscribed his achievements: reducing prices in markets, reducing the distance between East and West, reducing the consumption of petroleum, and the booming of global markets.
