POW mail, Israeli soldier in Abbassia camp Egypt. Israel War of Independence. 1948 - Sent from Tel Aviv through the Red Cross to POW camp in Egypt, undated (before March 1949). V. Velden in Tel Aviv sent this envelope to POW #30 Zeev Klein, who was held prisoner in Egypt. I was censored by the Israelis, went to the Red Cross in Geneva, and then delivered to the POW camp in Egypt. Egypt held 165 Israeli prisoners at the end of December 1948. they were captured at Kibbutz Yad Mordechai (5/24/48), Kibbutz Nizanim (6/7/48), and Kefar Hadarom (7/8/48). Presumably, this prisoner was restored to Israel through the Egypt-Israel prisoner exchange completed in March 1949. Markings include: a) Israeli bilingual censor b) Israeli censor #54 c) Red Cross imprint, Geneva 11x14 cm. Please see scans for self-grading.
