Holocaust - Archive with life-saving documents. Bialystok ghetto. Prisoner exchange with Nazi Germany for the Templars. - Transports Exchange with Nazi Germany for the Templars. The Return of the Leizerson Family to Palestine. Background: before the beginning of WW2, Yenta Leizerson and her children Yehiel, and Rachel which were residents of the Ertz Israel and citizens of the British Mandate, travelled to visit family in Poland. Yenta Leizerson lost her passport and was trying to get a new one, because of WW2 she was unsuccessful. After the Nazi invitation to Poland they were taken to Bialystok ghetto, where they stayed until October 1942 when they started the journey back to Palestine, as part of the second group of the transports exchange. The archive includes: 1: Graduation certificate of Yehiel Leizerson from the Bialystok Ghetto School, 1940/1. The certificate is in Hebrew and Yiddish. Ink stamp of the Judenrat in the Ghetto, signed on the plate by the principal, and hand signed by the home teacher. Stencil print. 23x18 cm. fair condition, rust stains, folding marks, and other wear. 2: a permit signed by the commander of the SD in Bialystok, authorizing ”the Jew Yenta Leizerson '' and her children to travel from Bialystok to Vienna, for the transport exchange. 29x21 cm. fair condition, tears that were taped, stains, and other wear. 3: a Nazi travel document from Bialystok to Vienna. 15x10 cm. very good condition. 4: a train ticket from Bialystok to Vienna. 13x9 cm. very good condition. 5: a travel certificate issued by the Swiss Embassy in Berlin. 29x20 cm. fair/poor condition, tears that were taped, stains, and other wear. 6: a letter of request from Avraham Leizerson to the Mandate authorities. 28x20 cm. good/very good condition 7: a telegram sent by Yenta Leizerson to Avraham Leizerson the day after the family returned. 14x21 cm. very good condition. 8: 3 revaccination certificates from Vienna. 15x20 cm. fair to good condition. 9: Confirmation of payment of 50 pounds for the family to the mandate authorities. 12x15 cm. fair condition. 10: Clipping from a newspaper, a small ad published by Yenta Leizerson, Inviting former Bialystok residents to hear news about their relatives. 10x9 cm. good/fair condition. 11: 14 printed pages, the testimony of Yenta Leizerson in Yad Vashem. Hebrew, 30x22 cm very good condition 12: three unidentified vouchers, with the names Yenta, Yehiel, and Rachel Leizerson. Possibly from Bialystok Ghetto or from the train from Bialystok to Vienna. 7x12 cm. good condition. 13: Yenta Leizersons' disabled certificate for prisoners and victims of the Nazis and their helpers. Also includes: 14: photo album of Yehiel Leizerson 1940's and 50's. The album contains over 200 photos. The photos are of school activities and trips, Gadna, recruitment and service in the IDF, IDF parades, some old family photos and more. Different sizes, most of the photos are 6x9 cm. 15: photo album of Rachel Leizerson 1940's and early 50's. The album contains, 12 school diplomas, a happy birthday postcard sent from Poland 1938. And over 200 photos, the photos include: portraits, old family photos, school activities, yearly school group photos, recruitment and service in the IDF, holidays, and more. Most photos have a written description on the back. Different sizes, the school group photos are 13x9 cm. Most of the photos are smaller than a postcard. Condition the album is falling apart, the photos are in very good condition. There are no photos of items 14, 15.
