Official Document – The Jewish Brigade - Rescue of Holocaust Survivors? 1946 - An official military document from 1946 referring to Sapper Ze’ev Kleiner, a soldier in the Royal Engineers of the British Army. The letter, dated 12 June 1946, was issued at the El Alamein Camp, Villach, Austria. It grants Kleiner a Class “X” Local Release Travel Pass to Bergamo, Italy, at public expense. The document belongs to the post–World War II period, when members of the Jewish Brigade were involved in rescuing and transporting Holocaust survivors from Europe to Italy and then to Palestine. It is likely that Kleiner used this military travel authorization to assist in the illegal transfer of survivors and refugees from Austria to Italy and Palestine. Dimensions: 24x18 cm.
