Jewish Brigade, Palestinian Jewish Soldiers in Libya, 1943 Original Photo - Rare Real Photo showing Jewish soldiers from Mandatory Palestine serving with the Palestine Motor Transport Work Services Company during World War II. These Jewish drivers operated in Libya and Egypt, evacuating Jews from embattled areas before Tobruk was encircled by the German Afrika Korps. Their trucks proudly bore Magen David emblems and the Jewish flag, serving as a symbol of encouragement and unity for North African Jewry. In addition to their logistical and guard duties, they also taught Hebrew to local Jewish children, preparing them for future life in Palestine. The photograph was taken in Leptis-Magna (today Lebda, near Tripoli) in 1943, as noted on the verso. The soldiers wear summer British uniforms, posing beside their vehicles marked with the Star of David — and notably, one truck bears the Hebrew inscription “Shoshana” (“שושנה”) on its front.
