Postal Cover sent to a Jewish Brigade soldier – 2nd Battalion, The Palestine Regiment, 1943 - An authentic postal cover sent in 1943 to Private T. Kriss, serving in the 2nd Battalion, Palestine Regiment, under the British Middle East Forces (M.E.F.) during World War II. The front bears a 10 mils Palestine E.R. stamp, a clear postmark, and a circular BASE CENSOR cachet. Addressed by hand: Pal/16198 Pte Kriss T H.Q. No.2 Jewish Bn Pal Regt M.E.F. At the top appears “Written in Hebrew”, indicating that the enclosed letter was written in Hebrew. Dated 7/12/43 at lower left. The Palestine Regiment originated from 15 Jewish companies initially attached to the East Kent Regiment (“The Buffs”). These units were mostly assigned guard duties before being reorganized into three infantry battalions forming the Palestine Regiment. In 1943, the Regiment was transferred to Libya and Egypt, where Private Kriss served with the 2nd Battalion. Condition: Very good, minor age toning, stamp and markings well preserved.
