Envelope Cover and Letter – Jewish Brigade, Cyprus, 1941 - Historic envelope and original handwritten letter sent by a soldier of the Jewish Brigade, 606 Company P.C., M.E.F., while stationed in Cyprus, addressed to Mr. Kurt Steinberg, Levontin Street, Rishon LeZion, Palestine (Eretz Israel). Posted on 29 October 1941, during the brigade’s deployment in Cyprus under the British Middle East Forces. The envelope bears several postal and censor markings: FIELD POST OFFICE 298, red “EXAMINED” label with censor number 38, and on the reverse side “BASE BY CENSOR” mark, alongside Egyptian transit mark “EGYPT 97 – 4 NO 41” and arrival postmark “RISHON LE TSION – 7 NO 41.” The letter, dated 21 October 1941, is written in English by Cpl. Saul Pal / 12346, 606 Coy P.C., M.E.F. In his message, the soldier expresses joy upon receiving a letter from his friends, sends congratulations on Hannah’s pregnancy, and describes his life in Cyprus as relatively easy, though he regrets the lack of upcoming home leave.
