Jewish Brigade – British Defence Medal, Palestine Regiment, WWII - Original British Defence Medal awarded to Sapper H. Schoenfeld, a Jewish volunteer from Palestine who served in the Royal Engineers – Palestine Regiment of the British Army during World War II. The accompanying award certificate, dated 3 January 1946, confirms his entitlement to the medal under service number Pal/46039, and is signed by a captain of the Royal Engineers (745 Pal. A/W Coy, R.E.). The medal, made of cupro-nickel, features the crowned royal cipher flanked by two lions, with the legend “The Defence Medal 1939–1945”, and is suspended from its original green–orange–green ribbon. Beautifully mounted in a black display case (approx. 20×30 cm) with an explanatory label about the Jewish Palestinian volunteers—about 30,000 men and women who joined the British forces and contributed to the Allied war effort.
