Jewish Brigade – Letter Chaplain’s Hospital Report, Italy 1945 - Original Jewish Chaplain (3rd District) letter sheet from Italy, dated 6 April 1945, written and signed by Rabbi Aaron Zev Eshkoli, the military chaplain of the Jewish Brigade. Addressed to Mr. Nahum Eiges, Tel Aviv, regarding his son Corporal Yitzchak Eiges, wounded in action on the Adriatic front. Rabbi Eshkoli writes: ”Visiting wounded soldiers in a hospital in Italy, I found your son... He is lucky – his condition is not serious... we can expect a complete recovery... he is in very good spirits...” The letter bears the original Jewish Chaplain – 3rd District stamp and was sent as an official Letter Card, folded and sealed to serve as its own envelope. The original postage stamp has been removed, but postal cancellations and traces of the gum remain visible.
