Rishon LeZion – Letter to Jacob Landau (Poalei Agudat Israel, Eretz Israel). Mizrachi Workers, Expulsion of a Yemeni from the Talmud Torah, 1935 (Tarsha) - A letter by an unidentified sender, addressed to Jacob Landau, founder of Poalei Agudat Israel. The sender expresses strong resentment regarding four workers who were sent from Petah Tikva, noting that “all of them are Mizrachi workers, and even if they are not registered with the Mizrachi party or its labor bureau, their outlook is Mizrachi.” The main criticism is directed at two of them: Wallerstein from Pafdam and Epstein from Freiburg. The writer states that Wallerstein “has no discernment at all, unable to distinguish between day and night, ” and questions: “And you gave him a transfer list of Poalei Agudat Israel to Rishon. You also gave the list to Epstein. After all, neither of them belongs to Agudah—so why did they receive that slip from you?” Later in the letter, the writer describes the working conditions and workers’ wages in the colony of Rishon LeZion, emphasizing the need for workers who are “healthy in body and mind.” At the bottom of the letter it is noted that, regarding the Talmud Torah, Mr. Gopshtein traveled today to Jerusalem in order to obtain a power of attorney to expel the Yemeni from the heder “in accordance with the law.” Approx. 25 × 20 cm.
