Jewish Legion – Lot of Two Official Envelopes of the Jewish Battalions, World War I Period - A lot comprising two original official envelopes of the Jewish Legion, from the period in which the Jewish battalions operated within the British Army during World War I. One envelope bears a bilingual heading at the top: JEWISH LEGION in English and “Ha-Gedud Ha-Ivri” (The Hebrew/Jewish Battalion) in Hebrew, with a Star of David at the center. An additional line of text appears beneath the heading as part of the official printed design of the battalions. The paper is of a brownish-yellow tone typical of the period. The envelope is unused, without address or postage. The second envelope features on its front the emblem of the battalion—a stylized Jewish menorah—with the slogan “Kadima” (Forward) printed beneath it, all in blue ink. This design reflects the official iconography and slogans of the Jewish battalions and expresses the spirit of volunteerism and early national-Hebrew aspiration.
