Jerusalem – 10 Postcards | Early Tourist Leporello | Early 20th Century - An early tourist leporello (accordion-format) comprising a sequence of ten photographic postcards depicting Jerusalem, Bethlehem, and their surroundings, early 20th century, circa. The item consists of sepia-toned photographic prints with captions printed directly on the images, in English and French, presenting key pilgrimage sites and landmark views: the Temple Area, the Western Wall, the Old City, Jerusalem street scenes and bazaars, the Mount of Olives, Gethsemane, and Bethlehem. The publication is unsigned, with no publisher’s name, monogram, catalogue number, or identifying graphic mark. However, it is possible that the leporello was originally issued as part of a tourist set or protective case in which the publisher’s details were stated, but which has not survived. Based on the caption style, format, choice of sites, and overall tourist-oriented character, this is an European production, intended for pilgrims and travelers, rather than a local or Cairo-based publication.
