Set of 5 Banknotes (1–50 New Sheqalim) with Identical Serial Number – 000005148 - Israel | Bank of Israel 1, 5, 10, 20 and 50 New Sheqalim A special set of five banknotes in the denominations of 1 New Sheqel, 5 New Sheqalim, 10 New Sheqalim, 20 New Sheqalim and 50 New Sheqalim – all bearing the same serial number: 000005148, in accordance with the information printed on the original folder backing. According to the text printed on the back of the folder: This is a unique series in which all five denominations are numbered with the same serial number. The serial number belongs to the first group of numbers printed, with the last digit serving as a control number. All banknotes were printed print-fresh, issued by the Bank of Israel, and are legal tender of the State of Israel. Condition: Banknotes: UNC, after physical examination – crisp, thick, healthy paper, with no folds, stains or defects. Folder: The front part of the folder is cut / missing. The original back of the folder is present and included, bearing the official descriptive text of the series. Description of the Banknotes (based on the folder text): 1 New Sheqel Obverse: Portrait of Maimonides against the background of a passage from the original manuscript of Mishneh Torah, including his handwriting and signature. Reverse: Illustration of Tiberias, where Maimonides is buried; a stone Menorah discovered in the Hamat-Tiberias Synagogue (2nd–3rd century). 5 New Sheqalim Obverse: Levi Eshkol, third Prime Minister of Israel (1963–1969), with a panorama of the unified city of Jerusalem in the background. Reverse: The National Water Carrier, agricultural fields and open land, symbolizing the development of water projects and agricultural settlement. 10 New Sheqalim Obverse: Golda Meir, fourth Prime Minister of Israel (1969–1974); to the left, a stylized tree forming a likeness of the Star of David, with a Menorah at the center. Reverse: Golda Meir at a synagogue in Moscow (1948–1949); Hebrew inscription: “Let My People Go.” 20 New Sheqalim Obverse: Moshe Sharett, second Prime Minister of Israel (1954–1955); the ceremony of hoisting the Israeli flag at the United Nations in 1949, with background patterns symbolizing historical flags. Reverse: Graphic rendering of Tel Aviv in its early days; the old building of Herzliya High School, of which Sharett was among the first students. 50 New Sheqalim Obverse: Shmuel Yosef Agnon, Nobel Prize laureate in Literature (1966), against the background of his books; his signature appears on the upper right book. Reverse: Skyline of Jerusalem; a list of 18 of Agnon’s books in Hebrew arranged in an arc-like pattern; below, a representation of a Jewish hamlet in the Diaspora.
