In 1907 he arrived in the United States to serve as rabbi of the Sephardic congregation Shearith Israel in New York, whose synagogue is the oldest in the United States. During World War I he was active in providing aid to Jews in Europe. Between 1919 and 1921 he served as an American representative to the Zionist Commission in Eretz Israel and acted as director of the Union of Sephardic Communities. Dr. de Sola Pool authored numerous works on religion, the history of American Jewry, education, and Zionism. Obverse: Central portrait of Dr. Pool. To the right – the de Sola family seal. Along the rim, in large English letters: “DAVID DE SOLA POOL” and in smaller English letters: “PRESENTED BY EDNA PORATH TO MELLE”. Reverse: At top – Hebrew inscription: “ואעידה לי עדים נאמנים”. At center – the emblem of the Shearith Israel Congregation, founded in 1654, depicting three columns symbolizing “Justice”, “Righteousness”, and “Truth”, with the inscription “The world stands upon”. Below – the date “1654–5414” and the English inscription: “THE CONGREGATION SHEARITH ISRAEL IN THE CITY OF NEW YORK”. Grade: EF+ / UNC- Well preserved example with sharp details, light wear confined to high points and rim, even natural patina, no significant damage.
