Commercial Registered Express Cover – Mixed Franking “Doar Ivri” & Israel – 2 February 1949 – Haifa – Cyprus Deportees Welcome Cachet on Reverse - Scarce early State of Israel commercial cover sent from Haifa on 2.2.1949. The cover bears a complete mixed franking of all the low denominations of the Doar Ivri issue (3, 5, 10, 15, 20, 50 pruta) together with an additional Israel stamp, tied by Haifa postmarks. Registered label: R – HAIFA 33230. Red EX (Express) marking. Printed sender: Mendel Shapira, Haifa, P.O.B. 2187 The word Palestine is struck through and replaced in manuscript with Israel — a characteristic transitional period detail. Addressed to: Mr. Aba Margalit, Haifa (Balfour St.). On the reverse: a commemorative cachet featuring a ship and the Hebrew inscription “Bruchim Haba’im Golei Cyprus” (“Welcome, Cyprus Deportees”), alongside a dated Haifa postmark 2.2.1949 — directly connected to the return of Jewish detainees from the Cyprus internment camps following the establishment of the State of Israel. Good overall condition for its age. Signs of postal handling, light creasing and age toning. Minor tears and old reinforcements to the back flap, as customary for covers of the period.
