Cover - State of Israel – Converted “On His Majesty’s Service” Official Envelope, 1951 – Jerusalem / Haifa – Haifa Port Administration - Official British Mandate envelope bearing the printed inscription ON HIS MAJESTY’S SERVICE, later converted for use by the State of Israel after independence. A printed label reading “Medinat Israel” (State of Israel) was affixed on the front, addressed to: Israel Maritime Authority, 2 Ha’atzmaut St., Haifa. Franked with two 15 Pruta “Coin” issue stamps of the State of Israel, tied by postmarks: • Jerusalem cancellation dated 29 April 1951 • Haifa cancellation dated 1 April 1951 (on the second stamp, front) Reverse: • Haifa postal datestamp dated 29 March 1951 (day of dispatch) • Purple cachets of the Haifa Port Administration • Original Mandate Government of Palestine insignia printed on the envelope An attractive and historically significant transitional cover, combining remaining British Mandate postal stationery with official usage by the young State of Israel. Condition: overall fair; age toning, folds, and handling marks consistent with postal use from 1951.
