Ottoman Empire – Palestine – Jaffa – Official Postal Card 1895 to Russia - Official Ottoman postal stationery card (Union Postale Universelle), printed with the designation “TURQUIE” rather than “Ottoman Empire.” Mailed in 1895 from the Jaffa post office to St. Petersburg, Russia. Although posted at Jaffa, the card is datelined Jerusalem, where it was originally written. From there it was forwarded to Jaffa, the principal port of Palestine until WWI. Imprinted 20 Para indicium tied by a clear Jaffa cancellation (Collins postmark #7). Three Russian transit and arrival postmarks on front and reverse confirm receipt in Russia. An early Ottoman Palestine postal item combining Jerusalem origin with Jaffa maritime dispatch. Desirable to collectors of Ottoman postal history, Palestine postal history, and international mail routes to Eastern Europe. Very good condition for its age, minor age toning as expected.
