Russian Post in Jaffa – Reply Paid Postal Card – Sent to Germany, 1901 - Official postal stationery of the Russian Post in the Levant (Русская Почта на Востоке / Poste Russe du Levant) with attached reply card. Mailed from the Russian post office in Jaffa on 19 April 1901, bearing a clear purple circular JAFFA (ЯФФА) cancellation. Imprinted stamp at upper right with the value 4 kopecks and the Imperial Russian coat of arms. Addressed to: Bernhard Rinck, Bonn am Rhein, Germany. On the front appears an arrival postmark from Bonn dated 9 May 1901, confirming delivery. The card is a reply-paid postal card, with the attached reply portion remaining unused. An interesting item from the period of foreign post offices operating in Ottoman Palestine under the capitulations, documenting the activity of the Russian postal service in Jaffa in the early 20th century.
