Ottoman Empire – Palestine – German Post Office in Jerusalem – Cover to Germany, 1904 – Syrian Orphanage in Jerusalem - Historic cover mailed from the German Post Office in Jerusalem (Deutsche Post) on 20 October 1904 to Germany. The cover is franked with a 5 Pfennig Germania stamp overprinted “10 Para”, issued for the German Post Offices in the Ottoman Empire (Offices in Turkey). The stamp is cancelled with a clear circular postmark: JERUSALEM – DEUTSCHE POST – 20.10.1904. Addressed to: Baroness Mangoldt (née Countess Brühl), Villa Manzinger, Traunstein, Bavaria, Germany. On the reverse appears an arrival postmark from Traunstein, Bavaria dated 2 November 1904. Also present is a printed return label of the Syrian Orphanage in Jerusalem (Syrisches Waisenhaus in Jerusalem) requesting return if the address is incorrect or the letter is undeliverable. An interesting postal history item from the period of foreign post offices operating in Ottoman Palestine under the Capitulations. Condition: Good overall condition.
