British Military Mail – E.E.F – Cover from Jerusalem to Port Tewfik, Egypt – 19 December 1918 - Historic cover from the early period of British rule in Eretz Israel, mailed from Jerusalem on 19 December 1918 to Port Tewfik, Suez, Egypt. The cover is franked with five E.E.F – Egyptian Expeditionary Force stamps: two 1 millieme, one 4 milliemes, and two 2 milliemes, from the POSTAGE / PAID issue used by the British military administration in the region following the conquest from the Ottoman Empire. The stamps are tied by E.E.F military postmarks, and the cover bears military censor markings. On the reverse is an arrival postmark PORT TEWFIK – 24 DEC 1918, confirming arrival in Egypt five days after mailing. Addressed to: H. J. Taylor Wing Esq. c/o Messrs. G. Beyts & Co. Port Tewfik, Suez Egypt The military postmark relates to the British administration established in the area after its capture: O.E.T.A. – Occupied Enemy Territory Administration, operating under the Egyptian Expeditionary Force. An early and significant postal history item from the transitional period between Ottoman rule and the British administration in Eretz Israel, shortly after the end of World War I.
