Registered Cover – Tel Aviv to New York, U.S.A., 1940 - British Mandate Palestine – Airmail cover from Tel Aviv to New York, 4 February 1940 Historical postal cover sent from Tel Aviv to New York during the British Mandate period, dated 4 February 1940. The cover is franked with a pair of 15 mils Dome of the Rock stamps, from the Palestine pictorial issue, cancelled with a circular TEL AVIV 4 FEB 1940 postmark. Also present is a German advertising slogan cancel reading “JAFFA ORANGEN UND GRAPEFRUIT.” Addressed to: Mr. John I. Shal, 80 Seaman Ave, New York. On the reverse appears the sender’s handwritten address: Josephina, 80 Hashmonaim, Tel Aviv. The front bears the note “Letter written in German, ” indicating the letter was written in German, typical of correspondence by German speaking immigrants in Palestine during this period. Overall good condition. Small tear at the postmark area, with minor postal wear typical for a traveled cover. An interesting historical item from the pre World War II period reflecting postal communication between Eretz Israel and the United States.
