Interim Period – Minhelet Ha'am – Registered Cover with JNF “Doar” Overprints, Haifa, 14 May 1948 (Independence Day) - Registered cover sent and delivered locally in Haifa during the transitional period between the end of the British Mandate and the establishment of the State of Israel. The cover is franked with Jewish National Fund (JNF) labels overprinted “Doar”, which were used as provisional postage stamps after the British post offices closed in early May 1948. These were utilized by the Minhelet Ha'am (People’s Administration) while it temporarily operated postal services. Several circular “Minhelet Ha'am – Haifa” cancellations tie the stamps to the cover. A Mandate-period registered label HAIFA 1 No. 9156 is also present. On the reverse are arrival postmarks from Haifa – Hadar Hacarmel, dated 14 MAY 1948, the day of the Declaration of Independence. Addressed locally to: Oskai Tejian, Haifa – Hechalur St. 22. Sender indicated on the reverse: B. Ebenbauer, Haifa, Joseph St. 37. An interesting transitional postal history item illustrating the use of JNF labels overprinted “Doar” and Minhelet Ha'am cancellations during the earliest days of Jewish postal service in May 1948.
