Commercial Cover – Kofar Hayishuv Provisional Stamps, Tel Aviv to Haifa, 21 April 1948 - Commercial envelope from the final weeks of the British Mandate postal period, mailed 21 April 1948 from Tel Aviv to Haifa. The cover bears a pair of 5 mil Kofar Hayishuv stamps depicting the Tel Aviv water tower, tied by a Tel Aviv office date stamp (21.4.48). Kofar Hayishuv stamps were used by the Jewish community institutions during the breakdown of regular Mandate postal services in the weeks preceding the establishment of the State of Israel. Hand-addressed to Haifa. On the reverse appears the sender’s cachet: “Yehuda Shemen – Oil Factory, 34 Jaffa Road (Beit HaKart), Tel Aviv.” A typical commercial usage of Kofar Hayishuv stamps on cover from the transitional period of spring 1948.
