Emergency Postal Service Cover – Rishon LeZion / Nachlat Yehuda, 27 April 1948 - Authentic cover from the Emergency Postal Service of the Jewish community in 1948, mailed from Nachlat Yehuda (then a suburb of Rishon LeZion) to Tel Aviv. The cover bears the Rishon LeZion Emergency label “By Armoured Car”, designed by Eva Samuel, depicting a fighter and armored vehicle. The label is tied to the cover by a bilingual boxed cancellation “Nachlat-Yehuda / נחלת יהודה”. A circular Rishon LeZion postmark dated 27 APR 1948 appears on the front, indicating that the mail was brought from Nachlat Yehuda by bicycle courier to Rishon LeZion, where it received the town date stamp before dispatch. On the reverse is a Tel Aviv arrival postmark dated 27 APR 1948. Addressed to: Mr. M. Saslewski, 14 Yona Hanavi St., Tel Aviv. Such covers illustrate the improvised postal arrangements used by the Jewish community during the final weeks of the British Mandate, when regular postal services were disrupted and local emergency systems were organized. Condition: Very good, with minor age marks consistent with a postal item of this period. Stamp well preserved and cancellations clear.
