Minhelet Ha’am – Nahariya Emergency Sea Mail – “The Isolated Western Galilee” Slogan Cover – April 11, 1948 - Original cover carried by the Emergency Sea Mail service between Nahariya and Haifa during the siege of the Western Galilee in the final months of the British Mandate. After the road to Haifa was blocked on March 17, 1948, Nahariya became completely isolated. A special maritime mail service was therefore organized using motor launches between Nahariya and Haifa, transporting food, ammunition, and postal items. The cover bears the well known propaganda slogan cancel: “The Isolated Western Galilee – Nahariya.” Franked with a 10 mil Mandate Palestine stamp, cancelled at Nahariya on 11 APR 1948. The reverse shows a Haifa arrival postmark dated 15 APR 1948, confirming the maritime transport route. Classified as Type III B cancel, one of the documented cancellations used in the Nahariya Emergency Sea Mail service. Items from this short period, when Nahariya was cut off and communication with Haifa was maintained only by sea, are historically significant material from the improvised postal services of the Jewish community during the 1948 war.
