Minhelet Ha’am – Nahariya Emergency Sea Mail Period – Collector Item Cover with JNF Herzl Label Overprinted “Doar” and Nahariya 11 Mil Delivery Label – 1948 - Cover related to the siege period of Nahariya and the Western Galilee in 1948, when the road to Haifa was blocked and communication relied on the Emergency Sea Mail system. The cover bears a JNF (Jewish National Fund) Herzl label overprinted “Doar”, cancelled with a Minhelet Ha’am Tel Aviv postmark. Also affixed is a Nahariya Local Council delivery label – 11 mil, used to indicate payment of the local delivery fee for mail arriving in Nahariya during the siege. The envelope itself is a Zionist propaganda cover commemorating the United Nations resolution of 29 November 1947 establishing a Jewish state in Palestine, featuring the well known Theodor Herzl quote: “If you will it, it is no dream.” It should be noted that this is most likely a collector item assembled after the period rather than a genuinely used wartime cover, although the labels and cancellations themselves are authentic period materials. Condition good for a collectible item of the period, with light age toning consistent with vintage paper material. Items from the collections of Jacob Yablok - VirtualJewishmuseum.com. The items are placed in a quality proactive nylon sleeve and can be easily and safely taken out from the display page. Displayed on a thin cardboard sheet.
