Nahariya Siege – Second Issue “Emergency Mail” Stamps – Set of Three Values with Period Cancellations – May 1948 - Group of Nahariya Local Council Emergency Mail stamps – second issue, released during the siege of Nahariya and the Western Galilee in the final stages of the 1948 War of Independence. Due to strong philatelic demand for material from the siege period, a second issue inscribed “Emergency Mail” was released on May 16, 1948, shortly after the establishment of the State of Israel. The stamps and postmark continued to be used until May 23, 1948, when the emergency postal system was terminated and normal land communication resumed. The set includes three denominations: 10 mils 20 mils 50 mils The stamps feature a Star of David design with trilingual inscriptions (Hebrew, English, and Arabic), representing a unique chapter in the improvised postal services operating in Nahariya during the siege. The examples shown bear period cancellations, including the characteristic BY SEA marking used for the emergency maritime mail service. Highly collectible material within the fields of Nahariya siege postal history, Minhelet Ha’am period, and the transition from the British Mandate to the State of Israel.
