The envelope was not sent through the mail but was prepared as a commemorative philatelic item documenting the postal changes of May 1948. The cover displays three historical stages: British Mandate Postal Service – A Palestine Mandate stamp (3 mils) cancelled in Tel Aviv on 5 May 1948, the final day of the British postal service in Palestine. Minhelet Ha’am Interim Postal Service – Interim labels overprinted “Doar” (mail) cancelled with a Tel Aviv Minhelet Ha’am postmark, representing the temporary Jewish postal administration that operated during the transition period after the end of the Mandate. State of Israel Postal Service – Doar Ivri – A Doar Ivri 3 mil stamp, from the first issue of the State of Israel, cancelled Tel Aviv, 16 May 1948, the first day of Israel’s official postal service. The composition therefore presents three postal administrations within only twelve days, highlighting the remarkable historical transition of the period. The envelope is printed with an illustration of Rachel’s Tomb and explanatory text in Hebrew and English describing the stages represented on the cover. According to the printed note on the display sheet, the stamps and cancellations appear authentic, but the envelope itself was prepared after the establishment of the State of Israel as a collector souvenir, rather than being an actual postal item sent at the time.
