World War II – Postcard sent from Romania to Paris under Nazi occupation, 17 July 1942 - Printed postcard “Carte Postale” sent from Romania to Paris, France, during World War II, when France was under Nazi occupation. The postcard is addressed to: Monsieur Jacquemet, 17 rue des Bernardins, Paris 5, France. On the reverse is a long handwritten letter in Romanian dated 17 July 1942, containing detailed family updates, including references to the health of family members, a visit by a relative, matters relating to property and inheritance, and a general description of living conditions during the war. Several personal names are mentioned in the text, including Isaac, Beny, Josef, as well as Sefora / Sephora. The name Sefora is a European spelling of the biblical name Zipporah, suggesting that the correspondence may relate to a Jewish family. Other personal names appearing in the letter are also consistent with names commonly used among Jews of Eastern Europe. The postcard documents a family correspondence between Romania and Paris in 1942, during a period when many Jews in Europe were living under severe restrictions and when international mail within Europe operated under the complex conditions of war and occupation.
