Hand-Drawn Humorous Certificate – “Knights of Special Abortions” – Israeli Air Force Base, 1970s–1980s - An original humorous certificate, entirely hand-drawn and handwritten, deliberately styled after official military commendations (IDF-style). At the top appears a heraldic emblem in ink – two rearing horses flanking a shield bearing the inscription: “Knights of Special Abortions.” The humor centers on a linguistic double meaning: in Hebrew, the word “hapala” (הפלה) commonly refers in an air force context to the downing of an enemy aircraft (“kill” or aerial victory), but the same word is also used in everyday language to mean an abortion. The certificate plays on this dual meaning, humorously reframing military terminology in a completely different context. Most likely created and presented informally within an Israeli Air Force base as an internal joke among unit members during the 1970s–1980s. Combines official-looking elements – a red wax seal and blue ribbon – with clearly humorous content and careful hand craftsmanship. Dimensions: 41 × 31 cm. Condition: tear to the passe-partout, light age and handling wear; seal and ribbon preserved. A unique and unusual item reflecting the internal humor culture within IDF units of the period.
