People's Republic of China – 1000 Yuan Banknote, 1949 中華人民共和國 壹仟圓 1949年 - Issuer: People’s Bank of China Country: People’s Republic of China Year: 1949 Denomination: 1000 Yuan Currency: First Renminbi (1949–1955) Composition: Paper Size: 133 × 72 mm Early Chinese banknote issued shortly after the founding of the People’s Republic of China in 1949. The obverse depicts two symbolic socialist-era scenes: an industrial factory with smoking chimneys at left and an agricultural ploughing scene with horse and farmer at right. The central panel bears the denomination “1000 Yuan” in traditional Chinese characters. The reverse features a cargo ship at harbor, symbolizing trade, transport and economic development during the early Mao-era period. The note bears a red serial number, printed official seals and ornate engraved borders characteristic of the first issues of the People’s Bank of China.
