4 Press Photographs – Ida Nudel Arrives in Israel, October 1987 - Four press photographs documenting the arrival of Prisoner of Zion Ida Nudel in Israel on October 15, 1987, following years of international efforts to secure her release from the Soviet Union. 14 × 18 cm. Unsigned photographs. Ida Nudel (1931–2021) was one of the most prominent activists on behalf of Soviet Jewish refuseniks and human rights. In 1978 she was sentenced to four years of exile in Siberia because of her activities and became an international symbol of the struggle for Jewish emigration and civil rights in the Soviet Union. The lot includes: A photograph showing Ida Nudel disembarking from an Aeroflot aircraft upon her arrival in Israel. A photograph of Nudel speaking on the telephone shortly after landing; standing behind her is Gad Yaacobi, then Minister of Economy and Planning and Minister of Communications. Two additional photographs showing Ida Nudel together with her sister, Helena Friedman, during the welcoming events held upon her arrival. Very good condition.
