Political Broadside: ”To the Workers of Tel Aviv!” – Opposition to the Emergency Public Labor Law (H.A.T.Z.) – War of Independence, August 1948 – Hebrew - Communist Party, Tel Aviv Branch Printed political broadside issued by the Tel Aviv branch of the Hebrew Communist Party during the War of Independence, headed ”To the Workers of Tel Aviv!” and directed against the Emergency Public Labor Law (H.A.T.Z.), a framework established to mobilize civilian labor for essential wartime production and services. The text calls upon Tel Aviv workers and workers' committees to oppose the establishment of H.A.T.Z. labor camps, alleging violations of workers' rights, disregard for elected workers' representatives, and the imposition of military style discipline. It includes accounts attributed to camp commanders and criticism of working and living conditions. As an alternative, the broadside advocates workers' production committees and labor supervision over production and profits. The final section lists concrete demands, including a formal resolution against H.A.T.Z., legislation establishing production committees, a delegation to the Ministers of Labor and Defense, discussion by the Histadrut Council, and a symbolic protest strike by Tel Aviv workers. An authentic political document from the War of Independence period, illustrating ideological and social conflicts surrounding labor mobilization and wartime production during the first months of the State of Israel. August 1948 (Av 5708). Hebrew Communist Party, Tel Aviv Branch. Printed by Malan Printing Co. Ltd. Single sheet, printed on both sides. 25 × 17 cm. Excellent condition.
