War of Independence – “Letter to a Comrade” – 7 Internal Bulletins Issued by the Central Committee Secretariat of the Hebrew Communist Party in Eretz Israel, 1948 - A group of seven stencil printed internal bulletins issued by the Central Committee Secretariat of the Hebrew Communist Party in Eretz Israel during 1948, throughout the War of Independence and the first months of the State of Israel. The group includes: Letter No. 1 – February 25, 1948 Letter No. 2 – March 17, 1948 Letter No. 3 – March 31, 1948 Letter No. 5 – June 9, 1948 Letter No. 6 – July 4, 1948 Letter No. 7 – August 12, 1948 Letter No. 8 – October 18, 1948 Letter No. 4 is missing and not included. Intended exclusively for party members (“For members only”), these bulletins provide a contemporary record of the Hebrew Communist Party's positions on major issues of 1948, including the War of Independence, the establishment of the State of Israel, besieged Jerusalem, the truce periods, labor movement affairs, economic and social questions, Jewish Arab relations, and internal party debates. Subjects discussed include the Fourth National Conference, meetings of the Central Committee, military and political developments, and the party's relations with labor organizations. Produced by stencil duplication and featuring characteristic hand drawn mastheads, the bulletins constitute an important primary source for the study of communist political activity in Eretz Israel during the pivotal year of 1948. 33 × 20 cm. 4–8 pages per bulletin, most comprising 6 pages. Letter No. 8 in good condition; the remaining issues are in very good to excellent condition.
