South Africa – Cookery and Food Association National Chairman’s Badge - A gold-tone office badge issued to a National Chairman of the Cookery and Food Association – CFA, apparently representing its South African division. The badge comprises a rectangular pin bar inscribed NATIONAL CHAIRMAN, suspending a circular medallion. Its face bears the initials RSA – Republic of South Africa, the CFA emblem, the inscription Cookery and Food Association, and the Latin motto DOCENDO DISCIMUS, meaning “By teaching, we learn.” Founded in London in 1885, the association was the predecessor of today’s Craft Guild of Chefs, a British professional chefs’ association. The reverse of the medallion is plain, while the bar is fitted with a pin fastening. Medallion diameter: 40 mm. Age-related wear, scratches and some rubbing to the finish.
