Rare Medal Max Planck Society for the Advancement of Science, High-Purity Silver – Germany, circa 1950–1960 - A large, impressive, and rare German medal issued by the Max Planck Society for the Advancement of Science (Max-Planck-Gesellschaft zur Förderung der Wissenschaften). The obverse features a prominent relief of helmeted Athena (Minerva), a figure symbolizing wisdom, knowledge, and science. The reverse bears the German inscription: MAX-PLANCK GESELLSCHAFT ZUR FÖRDERUNG DER WISSENSCHAFTEN The society was re-established in 1948 as the successor to the Kaiser Wilhelm Society. The medal most likely dates from the 1950s–1960s and was probably presented as an award of recognition or an official gift on behalf of the society. A rare item, seldom encountered on the collectors’ market. The medal was examined using a metal-composition analyzer. According to the accompanying test report, the measured composition is 94.84% silver (Ag) and 5.15% copper (Cu). The test report is included with the item.
