30 Early Telephone Tokens – Israel, 1950s–circa 1960 – Copper - A group of 30 early Israeli public telephone tokens of the type introduced in Israel in 1953. Made of copper, each token features a central hole. One side depicts an old rotary telephone dial, while the other bears the inscriptions “טלפון” and “TELEPHONE”, together with the year of issue in Hebrew letters. Some tokens are stamped with the numeral 8, apparently indicating the cost of a call in Agorot following Israel’s transition from Prutot to Agorot in 1960. Used condition, with varying degrees of wear, handling marks, scratches, staining and natural brown-copper patina. Differences in tone and preservation are present throughout the group. Please examine the photographs for condition and personal grading.
