Israel 10 Sheqalim Coin – Major Mint Error, Large Double Curved Clip – 1982–1985 - An Israel 10 Sheqalim coin of the Old Shekel series, displaying a dramatic production error. Two portions of the planchet are missing, comprising one large, deep curved clip and a second smaller clip. The missing areas may correspond to a double curved clipped-planchet error, apparently created when the blank was punched from the metal strip while overlapping previously punched areas. Parts of the design, inscriptions and rim are consequently absent. The coin weighs 7.03 g, compared with the standard weight of 8 g—a difference of 0.97 g, or approximately 12.1%. This weight loss generally corresponds with the visible missing metal and supports the possibility that the clips occurred before striking. Definitive authentication nevertheless requires professional physical examination. The obverse depicts an ancient lyre, the State Emblem and “Israel” in Hebrew, Arabic and English. The denomination side bears “10,” “שקלים / SHEQALIM” and the mint year, which is partly unclear because of the error. Copper-nickel, 75% copper and 25% nickel. Actual weight: 7.03 g.
