Bidspirit auction | Traditional Uzbek Gilded Low-Grade Silver
Traditional Uzbek Gilded Low-Grade Silver Amulet Pendant, Red Beads, Central Asia, Mid-20th Century - A traditional ethnographic pendant, most likely Uzbek, featuring a hollow domed body decorated with repoussé geometric patterns and a fringe of coiled metal dangles. Probably made of low-grade silver with a partially gilded finish; not laboratory tested. The dangles are accented with red beads, probably plastic or another early synthetic material. They do not appear to be glass, and it is impossible to determine from the photographs whether they are Bakelite or coral. Natural coral is considered the least likely possibility. The broad upper loop indicates that the ornament was probably intended to be worn as a pendant. Central Asia, probably Uzbekistan, circa mid-20th century. Length: 6.5 cm. Weight: 37.45 g. Several dangles are missing. Oxidation, patina, wear and imperfections consistent with age. Please examine the photographs for condition.
