Antique German 835 Silver Powder Compact – Neo-Rococo Style, Early 20th Century - A circular German powder compact crafted in .835 silver. Richly decorated with engraved flowers, foliage and scrolling Neo-Rococo ornament, combined with finely engine-turned surfaces. The reverse features a vacant rectangular cartouche intended for a monogram. The interior is partly gilt. The lid contains a polished inner disc, apparently made of .835 silver as part of the compact’s construction, although it has not been tested separately. Marked 835, with the maker’s mark M V and an additional indistinct hallmark. The maker has not been conclusively identified. Diameter: 10 cm. Weight excluding mirror: 130 g. The mirror is detached and unusable. Adhesive residue from its former mounting remains inside the compact. Considerable wear to the interior gilding, scratches, staining, oxidation and signs of use.
