Bidspirit auction | Lot of 3 Sterling Silver-Handled

Lot of 3 Sterling Silver-Handled Manicure Tools, Antique Propelling Pencil - A lot comprising three antique manicure implements that do not constitute an original matching set: A manicure knife with a steel blade and protective sheath. The sterling silver handle bears the maker’s mark G.U for George Unite, the Birmingham anchor, lion passant, Queen Victoria duty mark and a worn date letter apparently p, most likely for 1889. The blade is marked HOLLOW GROUND SILVER STEEL, referring to the type of tool steel rather than silver content. Tweezers with a sterling silver handle. The hallmarks include the Birmingham anchor, lion passant and an apparently u date letter, most likely for 1894. The maker’s mark is worn and cannot be identified with certainty. A cuticle pusher or nail-cleaning implement with a protective sheath. The sterling silver handle is marked R&B for Roberts & Belk, together with the Sheffield crown, lion passant and date letter W for 1914. Accompanied by an antique decorated propelling pencil with geometric ornamentation and a seal-form terminal. Marked M, apparently indicating the appropriate lead size. The pencil body appears to be silver; however, it does not bear complete silver hallmarks and has not been metal-tested. Its silver content is therefore not guaranteed. The pencil mechanism is not functioning. Length of each manicure tool: 12.5 cm. Length of pencil: 9 cm. Used condition, with age-related wear, scratches, rubbing, staining and oxidation. Some hallmarks are worn. Please examine the photographs for condition.
