Silver Sabbath Candle Lighting Accessories – Candle Snuffer, Tray and Matchbox Holder - A group of three silver articles used for lighting and extinguishing Sabbath candles: A long-handled candle snuffer with a bell-shaped extinguisher and gently shaped handle. The handle is marked STERLING HANDLE and WEB, apparently a maker’s mark. Total weight: 38.96 g; length: 24 cm. The stated weight includes components that may not be silver. A small tray, probably intended for spent matches or ash, with shaped borders decorated with floral and foliate motifs. Marked STERLING and numbered 1854, most likely a pattern or model number rather than a date. Diameter: 9 cm; weight: 24 g. A small matchbox holder decorated with an engraved geometric wave pattern. Its front cartouche is inscribed XV / 1909–1934, apparently commemorating a 25th anniversary. The reverse bears worn English silver hallmarks that cannot be identified conclusively. Dimensions: 4.4×2.3 cm. Made for a matchbox smaller than today’s standard size. The pieces do not appear to constitute an originally matching set, but rather three articles of differing origins and periods assembled for Sabbath candle lighting. Used condition, with scratches, patina, wear, staining and minor distortions consistent with age and use. Please examine the photographs for condition.
