Gabi Klezmer - Signs in space. 69.9 × 100.3 cm Abstract Composition – Diptych, 1982 Gabi Klezmer (b. 1950, Israel) A contemporary and modern work by an Israeli artist who served as a soldier in England. Gabi Klezmer is part of the generation of Israeli artists who have worked in a constant search for new boundaries of material, color and pictorial gesture. His work combines free abstraction with visual signs of a personal nature, using unconventional techniques and materials that create a unique and recognizable artistic language. The work before us is a diptych from 1982, made of enamel on chromo paper, a period in which Klezmer was engaged in exploring the relationships between color, movement and sign. The wide areas of color, dynamic arcs and energetic gestures create a sense of constant movement, while the letters and signs that appear along the upper part add a conceptual and mysterious layer inviting personal interpretation. The use of enamel gives the work a unique color intensity and shine, while the paper preserves the directness and spontaneity of the painting act. The two parts of the diptych work together as a single unit, but at the same time maintain an internal visual tension that gives the work an impressive and contemporary presence even today. This is an early and interesting work from a significant period in the artist's development, reflecting the spirit of experimentation and innovation that characterized Israeli art of the 1980s.
