A.R. Penck - A comprehensive monograph on German artist A.R. Penck (Ralf Winkler, 1939–2017) by acclaimed art critic and poet John Yau. The book explores the life and work of one of the leading figures of German Neo-Expressionism, focusing on Penck's distinctive visual language of stick figures, pictograms, and geometric symbols, developed as a universal code and a subtle critique of the East German communist regime. Published in 1993 by Prestel in association with Harry N. Abrams, the volume comprises approximately 128 pages with scholarly essays, an exhibition chronology, and numerous colour illustrations of his paintings and sculptures.
