Bidspirit auction | Salvatore Ferragamo Italian Silk Scarf

Salvatore Ferragamo Italian Silk Scarf with Tiger and Orientalist Motif - This square silk scarf is a product of Salvatore Ferragamo, manufactured in Italy. The design features a central cream-colored field depicting a large Bengal tiger in a resting pose next to a vibrant exotic bird. Below these figures is an illustrated scroll draped over three books, showing an elephant with a howdah and figures on horseback in a sepia-toned landscape. The central scene is framed by elaborate, stylized feather flourishes in red, yellow, and teal. The composition is bordered by a wide band of hunter green silk. The scarf is finished with a hand-rolled and hand-stitched hem in a contrasting teal blue thread. A printed signature is visible in a gold-toned cartouche at the bottom center reading © Salvatore Ferragamo. The original fabric care label is sewn into the edge, confirming the material as 100% silk and stating it was made in Italy. 34 inches x 34 inches. Ferragamo's Orientalist wildlife prints from the 1980s and 1990s -- Bengal tigers, exotic birds, illustrated scrolls -- are among the house's most ambitious and detailed silk designs, executed with the richness of lacquer painting. This example includes a resting tiger alongside an exotic bird and a carved scroll displaying text and geographic imagery, framed in Ferragamo's characteristic deep-border format. Italian-made, 100% silk, hand-rolled edges.
