Bidspirit auction | Antique Russian Gold Enamel Cufflinks,

Antique Russian Gold Enamel Cufflinks, 56 & AH Hallmarks – Fabergé Style - An exceptional pair of antique Russian-style gold cufflinks, featuring an elegant oval design adorned with magnificent turquoise-blue Guilloché enamel, reminiscent of the distinguished Russian goldsmithing traditions of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Each cufflink features a beautifully crafted oval gold frame surrounding a translucent enamel surface, beneath which finely engraved radial lines extend outward from a central point. The intricate sunburst pattern creates remarkable depth, brilliance, and captivating variations of blue and turquoise. At the center of each cufflink is a circular metal element with a darker finish and a small recessed opening, possibly originally intended to accommodate a gemstone or an additional decorative element. The cufflinks feature a traditional fastening mechanism and bear a 56 hallmark, corresponding to the historical Russian 56-zolotnik gold standard, equivalent to approximately 14K gold. An additional maker's mark appears to read AH, potentially representing the Cyrillic initials АН. One intriguing possibility is August Holmström, a distinguished master jeweler associated with the House of Fabergé in St. Petersburg, whose workshop used this mark. Another possible comparison is the A*H hallmark associated with August Hollming, also a renowned Fabergé workmaster. The combination of fine Guilloché enamel craftsmanship, elegant design, and intriguing historical hallmarks suggests a possible Imperial Russian origin. The cufflinks are reminiscent of the celebrated enamel creations associated with the House of Fabergé, although attribution to Fabergé or a particular workmaster remains unconfirmed.
