The Gaon Rabbi Yehezkel Landau (1714-1793) Av Beis Din of Prague was one of the greatest Achronim. His name was known throughout the Diaspora of Israel. In 1715, he assumed the leadership of the rabbinate in the esteemed city of Prague and established a prominent yeshiva there. He led the institution for nearly forty years; during this time, numerous distinguished rabbis and scholars emerged. He authored Shu”t Noda BeYehuda, Tzlach on the Shas, Dogul Mervava on Shu”t, and collections of derashos.
In his Hesped, his distinguished talmid, the Teshuva MeAhava, writes about his great yeshiva in Prague: "He raised several thousand talmidim in the world, of whom several hundred are Rabbis and Dayanim throughout Israel" (Olas Hachodesh Hashlishi p. 85a).
The Gaon Rabbi Meir Fishels - Bomsla Ravad of Prague (deceased: 1779) one of the greatest Torah rabbis of his generation, a talmid of the Gaon Rabbi Yonason Eiveshitz. The Noda BeYehuda greatly admired him and said of him in his hesped, amongst other praises 'he spread Torah in Israel for more than forty years while situated in the yeshiva, and hundreds of students always gathered to him to hear Torah from his mouth, which in this extreme abundance was not preceded by several generations.'
