The Rogatchover.  A long, unknown letter of Chiddushei Torah in the handwriting of the Gaon Rabbi Yosef Rozin  * A detailed Torah letter consisting of fifty lines, all penned in the sacred handwriting of the esteemed Gaon Rabbi Yosef Rozin, Av Beis Din of Dvinsk, known as the Rogatchover. A new and unknown letter; to the best of Genazym’s knowledge, this letter has never been printed, not even in the later volumes of Shu”t Tzafnas Paneach HaChadashos. The letter addresses two halachic topics: regarding the tekiyos (shofar blasts) and their blessings, and the appropriate location for the chazzan during prayer; whether he should stand at the amud or on the bimah. Following his brilliant path, the Rogatchover delves into vast depths of talmudic analysis and brings astonishing sources from across the breadth of Chazal and the Rambam. Sent to ”my sharp and knowledgeable friend, who engages in intricate pilpul, the esteemed Rabbi Nosson Nota” – referring to Rabbi Nosson Nota [Efraimovitz] (1873–1953), a native of Dvinsk, who was close and dear to the Rogatchover and frequently corresponded with him. He served as a rabbi in several towns in Lithuania and Latvia, and from 1929 served as the Chabad rabbi in Montreal, Canada. It was then that the Rogatchover wrote to him: ”My heart rejoiced greatly that he became a Chassid” (Shu”t Tzafnas Paneach HaChadashos, vol. I, p. 14). Dvinsk, 13 Tishrei 5687 [1927]. Folded leaf, 2 written pages, each page measuring 13×21 cm. 50 lines, entirely in his holy handwriting and his signature. Good condition.
